VERPOORTEN - History
A success story
1876
Foundation in Heinsberg near Aachen by Eugen Verpoorten (1815 - 1888).
1920
Relocation to Berlin by Willy Verpoorten, third generation (1896-1956).
1936
Opening of a branch in Straubing/Lower Bavaria by Elly Verpoorten (1900-1968), Willy Verpoorten's spouse.
1945
Restart in Straubing after World War.
1952
Laying of the foundation stone of the new headquarters in Bonn.
1955
Victor Verpoorten (1922 – 2003) initiates first promotional campaigns, beginning with print ads, then TV.
1960
Reconstruction of the former production plant in Berlin.
1961
The well-known advertising slogan „Ei, Ei,Ei VERPOORTEN....“ is created.
1965
Expansion of the headquarters in Bonn. A facility for crystallisation of fresh egg white, unique in Germany, is installed. This product is mainly used in the confectionery industry.
1966
Development of most modern egg cracking and control installations. To this day only eggs of quality grade A are used at VERPOORTEN's and are cracked on site in the facility itself.
1968
Change in the legal form of the company from an oHG (general partnership) to a KG (limited partnership).
1970
Setting-up of licenced production plants in neighbouring European countries. Moreover world-wide export of bottled goods.
1983
Expansion of the egg white crystallisation facility.
1986
Change in the legal form of the company to a GmbH & Co. KG (Ltd.).
1988 / 1989
Purchase of a most modern, highly efficient egg cracking facility, constructed by the US company Seymour.
1989
Setting-up of a modern, company-owned laboratory for food analysis to further ensure quality.
1993
Purchase of a building plot to consolidate the Bonn headquarters. Construction of a new tank storage installation for VERPOORTEN.
1994
Integration of the Berlin production plant by extending the production and storage equipment in Bonn.
1997
Renewed purchase of a building plot for further expansion of storage capacities.
1998
Building of a new air conditioned warehouse for finished products.
1999
VERPOORTEN allocates licences to renowned producers of branded ice-cream, deep frozen gâteaux and chocolates.
2000
Significant extension of storage tank capacities.
2001
VERPOORTEN celebrates its 125th company anniversary.
2002
A further famous pastry manufacturer has been won as licence partner.
2003
Publication of the first VERPOORTEN-book with 50 easy recipes "Mixing, cooking, baking..." by William Verpoorten (5th generation), available in the book trade.
2004
VERPOORTEN follows new ways in advertising; great success with authentic TV spots featuring amateur actors.
2005 / 2006
New licence partnerships with both the renowned coffee company Jacobs of Bremen (the new product’s name is “JACOBS CAPPUCCINO SPECIALS Verpoorten”) and with the gingerbread company Wicklein/Schmidt from Nuremberg for Wicklein gingerbread “HEARTS & STARS with Verpoorten”.
2008 / 2009
VERPOORT EN expands to the convenience food market. In cooperation with the fine food manufacturer Edmund Merl, Brühl, VERPOORTEN developes fresh desserts. Four delicious, seasonal recipe-variations came to the market.

Von der Avocado zum Ei, ei, ei...
Die Geschichte des gelben Klassikers
Die Ureinwohner des Amazonasgebietes in der portugiesischen Kolonie Brasilien, die Tupo-Guarani Indianer, mischten einst ein alkoholhaltiges Getränk auf Basis der Avocadofrucht. Die Kolonialfahrer importierten im 17. Jahrhundert den Avocadobaum und die Rezeptur nach Europa, doch die Bäume wollten hier nicht gedeihen. Aber wie konnte die Avocado ersetzt werden? Die Lösung war im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes das geschmacklich und optisch ähnliche „Gelbe vom Ei“. So entwickelte Eugen Verpoorten 1876 schließlich seine spezielle Rezeptur, nach der auch heute noch der köstliche Verpoorten Original hergestellt wird.
